Dare to Challenge: A Review of Coup

When it comes to picking a game to play with a large group of people, I immediately reach for The Resistance. Sure, it's incredibly difficult for one team (the titular Resistance) to actually win. And yeah, it's been known to cause shouting matches. But what's funner than an afternoon of yelling at friends? If you don't enjoy that, WARNING: Coup, a card game that takes place in the same universe, may create the same atmosphere.

IKEA Hack: The Antonius Balcony Planter

I've noticed that a lot of people in our building put potted plants on their balcony walls. It looks nice, but the biggest problem with this method is that it only takes a small earthquake, a strong gust of wind, or one clumsy person (usually me) to send the pots right off the wall and onto the sidewalk below. I wanted to find some kind of planter that sat like a saddle on the wall, but I didn't want to spend too much money on it. Well, if necessity is the mother of invention, then IKEA is the ... mother-in-law?

Tootle: Worst Children's Book Ever?

One of the fun aspects of having a kid is revisiting media from your youth and discovering how awful everything is. In this case, I'm talking about the 1945 Little Golden Book "Tootle" — quite possibly the worst children's book ever.

If you're not familiar with "Tootle," it was the third best-selling children's book of all time, according to Publishers Weekly back in 2001.

Death and Probability: A Death Angel Review

Awhile back a good friend of mine gave me his copy of the board game Space Hulk. I wasn't familiar with Warhammer 40K and was totally overwhelmed by how complicated the game appeared to be. But hulking space marines taking on horrifying creatures? I was so there. Sadly, I never got to try it out. While packing up to move from Washington, D.C. to Northern California, Space Hulk ended up being passed on to another person. But I never forgot you, Space Hulk. That's why I snatched up Space Hulk: Death Angel when I learned of its existence.

Some Quick Thoughts on Marvel's Daredevil

I started watching Marvel's Daredevil on Netflix over the weekend, and being a fan of "The Man Without Fear," I'm overall loving the show. It's pretty bleak, and I prefer Mark Waid's run on the comic, which is far more light-hearted. But it would be a disservice to fans if you glossed over the darker side of such an iconic character, especially since everything that occurs during Waid's run finds Matt Murdock in a very different place — literally and figuratively.
